I’ve come to the conclusion that God is in the business of making stews, not casseroles.

He doesn’t just bung us in the oven and shut the door and leave us there till we’re done – no, it’s more like cooking a stew on top of the stove, taking a look every now and again to see how it’s doing, adding another ingredient, giving it a prod, stirring a bit, even turning the heat up a bit or down a bit…

  1. That could be likely but I've always seen the general population as a tossed salad. Lots of loose ingredients bearing little relation to each other except for being stuck together in the same bowl. But yours is probably more scripturally sound.

  2. lol… I can see the salad metaphor as referring to the general population – my stew was referring more to the individual. he's got me in a pot with some onions and carrots, then just as I've got used to the heat he cranks it up a bit and adds some stuff that makes me sneeze.

  3. Ah, I see. Yes, that makes tons of sense. And one of my problems has often been that God is making me into this amazing stew but I think I'd rather be a tiramisu. And being a tiramisu with stew beef and herbs just doesn't work.
