That’s what I expect in a dialogue with another adult – respect. If I feel you are not respecting me, I’m very unlikely to be able to listen to what you are saying.

Responding to my blog by telling me I’m wrong and you know what’s good for me – sorry, no, that doesn’t really get me into listening mode.

  1. met a friend’s boyfriend once and showed them both around Detroit. they’d never been there before. but he proceeded to tell me how wrong i was about most of what i showed them around town. by the end of our excursion i was completely silent. (can’t contradict me when i don’t speak.) before they left my friend made him apologize to me. i haven’t seen them much since then. :-\
