The cross, paraphrased

When I look at the cross
what do I see
It isn’t God’s finger pointing at me

It isn’t God saying
Look how evil you are
I’m done with you, human
You’ve gone too far

It’s God saying:
human, I know, and I love you
your sins – they are serious
but you don’t have to suffer
I’ve taken the blame
the guilt and the torment
I want you to live
I want you to walk free
your sins are bad
but I love you. The end.

your suffering saviour
your God
and your friend.
